U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) has introduced the Limiting Extremist Travel to the United Nations Act, a bill that would formalize travel restrictions for foreign officials from certain countries and organizations when attending official United Nations meetings in New York City.

The legislation aims to require foreign officials affiliated with hostile countries, terrorist organizations, and some U.N. entities to follow specific travel routes between New York City airports, their representative offices, hotels, and the U.N. Headquarters Building. It also limits their visa stay to cover only the duration of the U.N. General Assembly plus one day before and after for travel purposes.

“No person who chants ‘Death to America’ should be allowed free rein when visiting the United States for U.N. meetings in New York. Not only does their presence pose a serious risk to our national security, but it sends the wrong message to the world,” said Rep. Steube. “My bill makes sure only American allies and good faith partners in the international community are permitted full freedom of movement within the U.S. when attending official proceedings of the U.N.”

According to information provided by Steube’s office, this measure codifies existing State Department practices that set conditions on travel for officials from certain regimes or designated Foreign Terrorist Organizations during visits related to United Nations business.

The full text of the bill is available online.
