Congressman Greg Steube has recently made a series of public statements on his social media accounts, focusing on aerospace leadership in Florida and proposed changes to military department nomenclature. In his posts, Steube highlighted both ongoing discussions with state legislators and legislative efforts at the federal level.

On September 4, 2025, Steube wrote: "It was great meeting with leaders from the Florida legislature this week to discuss the future of aerospace in the Sunshine State. All of us are committed to ensuring Florida remains the leader in space innovation and exploration."

The following day, he addressed a different issue regarding military tradition and executive actions. On September 5, 2025, Steube stated: "Restoring the Department of War title to our military is the right move. @SenMikeLee, @SenRickScott and I have already filed legislation that will codify President Trump’s executive order. Let’s make it happen."

Later that same day, he reiterated his involvement in introducing related legislation: "I have already joined with @SenMikeLee and @SenRickScott to introduce the Department of War Restoration Act codifying @POTUS' historic executive order. Congress has everything it needs to make permanent President Trump’s historic decision to restore the Department of War. Let’s"

Steube represents Florida's 17th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives and has been active on issues relating both to his home state's economic sectors—such as aerospace—and national defense policy.

Florida plays a significant role in America's space industry, being home to Kennedy Space Center and numerous private sector investments in aerospace technology.

Historically, what is now known as the Department of Defense was called the Department of War until its renaming after World War II as part of broader restructuring under the National Security Act of 1947.
