U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and Senator Josh Hawley (R-Ind.) have introduced the Jamie Reed Protecting Our Kids from Child Abuse Act. This legislation aims to establish a federal tort for individuals harmed by gender-transition procedures as minors, aligning with the Trump administration's request for such legal measures.

Rep. Steube stated, "Thousands of families have been defrauded by the Left’s gender ideology lie: that mutilation is somehow medicine." He further described sex reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for minors as "child abuse in service to a depraved political agenda."

The bill has garnered support from Representative Mary Miller (R-Ill.), Chair of the Congressional Family Caucus, who is a cosponsor. She emphasized, "Irreversible gender-mutilation procedures have permanently harmed children across America under the false guise of health care."

Senator Hawley expressed his commitment to protecting children from what he termed "irreversible and dangerous child mutilation procedures," criticizing the Biden administration for enabling these practices.

The proposed act would create a private right of action against those responsible for harm caused by gender-transition procedures on minors. It also seeks to ban federal funding to any institution affiliated with providing such procedures to minors.
