City Of Sarasota, Fl issued the following announcement on Jul 25.
We were honored to be part of the local festivities yesterday as Sarasota’s own John "Buck" O’Neil was posthumously inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Buck played in the Negro League with the Kansas City Monarchs and went on to become the first Black coach in the American or National League.
The Key to the City was posthumously bestowed by Vice Mayor Kyle Scott Battie to celebrate Buck's legacy and remarkable impact. The key will be on display at the future home of the Sarasota African American Cultural Coalition, center and museum in Newtown.
