Sarasota County issued the following announcement on Dec. 30.

Dec. 30, Sarasota County Board of County Commission Chairman Alan Maio signed the sale and lease agreement for the downtown Administration Building and related parcels located at 1660 Ringling Blvd., 1646 Morrill St. and 1703 Morrill St., Sarasota. The sale and lease agreement with Benderson Development Company includes a leasing agreement with Sarasota County so the county may occupy and self-manage the current Administration Building at 1660 Ringling Blvd. for a period of approximately four years upon closing to allow for the development of a new County Administration Building anticipated in 2025.

Project timeline:

  • Dec. 30, 2021 – Sarasota County closed the sale and commenced the lease of the building.
  • Nov. 15, 2021 - The Sarasota County Board of County Commission adopted a resolution for the sale of real property and related parcels for 1660 Ringling Boulevard.
  • Sept. 28, 2021 – The Sarasota County Board of County Commission authorized the county administrator to enter negotiations with Benderson Development Company.
  • Aug. 20, 2021 – Responses to the Invitation to Negotiate (ITN) were due and Sarasota County received six proposals from interested parties.
  • July 19, 2021 – Sarasota County advertised an ITN for the purchase of the county-owned building and land located at 1660 Ringling Blvd., 1646 Morrill St. and 1703 Morrill St.
