City Of Sarasota issued the following announcement on Dec. 14.
SOLAR POWER - Sarasota Mayor Erik Arroyo, Commissioner Jen Ahearn-Koch and City staff attended last night's unveiling of the largest solar-powered battery in the world. The Parrish facility stores power generated by a nearby Florida Power & Light solar array, and then feeds that into the electrical grid when it’s needed.
As a partner in FPL’s Solar Together program, the City helps to support their solar production, and in the process we’re able to offset a majority of our electricity usage and lower our utility bills over time. It also brings us closer to our “Ready for 100” goal of 100 percent renewable energy for City operations by the year 2030.
