City of North Port issued the following announcement on Oct. 15
From Oct. 1-30, 2020, families can register for the holiday Adopt-n-Shop program by downloading and completing the Adopt-n-Shop registration form and emailing it to: brainey@cityofnorthport.com.
There will be no extensions, so it is important that families apply during this timeframe. Families registering for the Adopt-N-Shop program must provide income and residency verification.
Adopting an area family in need is one of the most rewarding ways to make a difference during the holiday season. The City of North Port's Social Services Division hosts this program to help provide gifts and needed supplies to those less fortunate, especially during these uncertain times when so many have been affected financially throughout the pandemic. Families who are registered through the Home for the Holidays Program will be matched to "adopters" - individuals, organizations, or businesses. Their information - including the children's genders, ages, and gift preferences - is provided to the adopter. Adopters then purchase gifts at their discretion, wrap gifts, and supply goods (sometimes even food) to their adoptees. Those seeking to be an "adopter" may register by calling (941) 429-3700 or emailing brainey@cityofnorthport.com.
