Congressman Greg Steube, who represents Florida's 17th congressional district, used his social media platform to comment on recent legal and legislative developments related to immigration enforcement and military policy. The posts, made between September 6 and September 8, 2025, focus on the role of federal authority in enforcing immigration laws and proposed changes to military nomenclature.

On September 6, Steube emphasized support for law enforcement efforts at the federal level. He wrote: "Law and order is nonnegotiable. As Florida steps up to help the Trump administration with facilities like Alligator Alcatraz, the courts must continue to reject underhanded schemes by Democrats to prevent the enforcement of immigration laws."

Two days later, on September 8, Steube addressed an upcoming debate in Congress regarding the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). He announced plans for a legislative amendment tied to President Trump's executive actions: "Congress will be debating the NDAA this week. I will be filing an amendment to codify President Trump’s executive order restoring the name Department of War to our military. I urge my Republican colleagues to join me in standing with @POTUS and @SecWar by voting yes."

Later that same day, Steube commented on a judicial decision concerning federal versus state powers in immigration enforcement: "Left-wing states don’t get to pick and choose which laws the federal government can enforce. Today’s ruling reaffirms President Trump’s right and responsibility to make sure our immigration laws are followed."

The issues referenced by Steube reflect ongoing national debates about states' roles in enforcing or resisting federal immigration directives. Historically, tensions have arisen when states implement policies perceived as either obstructing or supplementing federal law enforcement priorities. The mention of "Alligator Alcatraz" refers to recently developed detention facilities in Florida designed for use during increased federal action on immigration.

Additionally, proposals such as renaming branches of the U.S. military echo earlier discussions about tradition versus modernization within defense institutions.
