Congressman Greg Steube, who represents Florida's 17th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives, recently shared a series of posts on his official Twitter account addressing crime policy and military tradition.

On August 26, 2025, Steube posted a brief update: "Welp. Nevermind!"
The Department of Defense was established in its current form in 1949; prior to that time it was known as the Department of War—a name used from America's founding through both world wars before being changed during postwar reorganization efforts.
Steube has previously advocated for policies focused on law enforcement and national security as part of his legislative agenda.
