Congressman Greg Steube, who represents Florida's 17th congressional district, recently addressed the topic of alleged Russian interference in U.S. elections and related political controversies through a series of posts on his social media account.

On July 23, 2025, Steube stated: "The intel community knew Putin’s goal was never to elect Trump. In fact, Putin’s actions point to a belief that a Hillary Clinton presidency would have served Russia’s interests. But for years, Democrats and the media parroted the myth that Trump won solely because of".

The following day, July 24, Steube posted: "Rest in peace to a legend." The post did not specify further details about the individual being referenced.

Later on July 24, Steube added: "We can now confirm what we knew all along. Every Obama official who propagated the Russiagate hoax needs to be brought in and deposed immediately. This was an unprecedented and intentional act to destroy the Trump presidency. People need to go to jail for this."

These statements come amid ongoing public debate over investigations into Russian interference during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Multiple inquiries—including those led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller—examined whether there was coordination between Russian actors and members of Donald Trump's campaign team. While Mueller's report found insufficient evidence to establish criminal conspiracy between Trump associates and Russia, it documented numerous contacts between campaign officials and Russians as well as extensive Russian efforts to interfere with the election process.

The term "Russiagate" is often used by critics who argue that concerns about collusion were exaggerated or politically motivated. Congressional investigations into these matters have continued over several years.
