A FOIA request was sent to New College of Florida regarding Chinese National students on June 4, 2025. As representatives of the Sarasota Review, we have submitted a formal request for records under Article I, section 24 of the Florida Constitution, and chapter 119, F.S., seeking detailed information about Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.

Our request specifically asks for documents or lists that detail all current students who are Chinese Nationals and their respective departments of study. If student names are protected by privacy laws, we have requested that this information be redacted or provided in aggregate form. Additionally, we seek data on scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship.

Furthermore, we have inquired about any scholarships linked to the Chinese Scholarship Council and requested clarity on how these may overlap with other financial awards. Our inquiry also extends to understanding the university's policies and procedures for monitoring students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and confidential information.

This request is made on behalf of our publication and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As members of the media committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we emphasize the importance of access to public records in fulfilling our professional duties. We believe this access qualifies us for a fee waiver as media professionals.

The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy supports this endeavor as part of its mission to assist news media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
