Congressman Greg Steube, who has been representing Florida’s 17th district since 2019, shared his thoughts on recent events and legislative developments through a series of tweets. Born in Bradenton, Florida in 1978, Steube is an alumnus of the University of Florida where he earned both his BS and JD degrees.
On May 22, 2025, Congressman Steube expressed his condolences regarding a violent incident involving Israeli embassy staffers. He stated: "Horrific and heartbreaking. My prayers are with the families of the two Israeli embassy staffers murdered in cold blood, victims of a hate-driven, antisemitic act of terror." He further described the act as not being random violence but rather an example of deeply rooted hatred.
Later that day, Steube announced the passage of significant legislation backed by former President Trump. He tweeted: " President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill just PASSED the House." The bill aims to extend tax cuts from Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), eliminate taxes on tips, overtime pay, and auto loan interest while providing relief for seniors, families, and small businesses. It also includes funding for the border wall.
In another tweet posted shortly after, Steube criticized fellow congressman Andrew Garbarino's absence during a crucial vote on this bill. He remarked: "One Big Beautiful Snooze… After all that posturing on SALT, Garbarino couldn’t even manage to wake himself up to vote for the bill!"
Steube has served in Congress since replacing Tom Rooney in 2019 and previously held office in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 to 2016. Now residing in Sarasota at age 44, he continues to actively participate in legislative processes impacting his constituents.
