Congressman Greg Steube, representing Florida's 17th district, recently took to social media to express his concerns regarding the FBI's handling of the 2017 Congressional baseball shooting. In a series of tweets dated May 6, 2025, Steube criticized the actions and conclusions drawn by federal authorities.
In his first tweet "The @HouseIntel just released its report on the 2017 Congressional baseball shooting. I call on @FBIDirectorKash and @FBIDDBongino to implement the recommendations of the report to deliver accountability and make sure the Bureau never again sugarcoats an act of domestic", Steube urged FBI leadership to adopt the House Intelligence Committee's recommendations following their investigation into the incident.
In another tweet "(2/8) In the aftermath of the attack that left six shot by a far-left domestic terrorist, the FBI misled the public about the events of that day and the intentions of James T. Hodgkinson. Rather than follow the facts, FBI agents and Intel analysts cherry-picked evidence and", he accused federal agents of misleading public perception by selectively presenting evidence related to James T. Hodgkinson’s motives.
Further elaborating on his criticisms in a subsequent post "(4/8) The FBI also claimed Hodgkinson was attempting “suicide by cop”, even though eyewitnesses testified that he took cover and tried to conceal himself from law enforcement when they arrived on the scene. The Bureau ignored the fact his cellphone, laptop, and digital camera", Steube contested claims made by investigators about Hodgkinson’s intentions during the incident.
Greg Steube has been serving in Congress since 2019 after succeeding Tom Rooney. Prior to this role, he served in Florida's House of Representatives from 2010 until 2016. Born in Bradenton, Florida in 1978, Steube holds degrees from both undergraduate and law programs at the University of Florida.
