COUNTY OF SARASOTA : Summer cookouts feature delicious foods on the grill and picnic tables filled with summertime treats

Bbq1

County Of Sarasota issued the following announcement on Jul 18.

Summer cookouts feature delicious foods on the grill and picnic tables filled with summertime treats. But proper cleaning of those greasy tools and dishes is key.

When fats, oils and grease (FOG) are poured or washed into kitchen drains, they harden when they cool and collect inside wastewater pipes. As FOG builds up, it restricts the flow in the pipes and can cause a major clog or backup.

We can prevent FOG buildup by following these tips:

Scrape food waste from plates into the trash, not down the drain.

Pour cooled FOG into old food containers like tin cans or glass jars.

Wipe the FOG from grills, pots and pans prior to washing them. Trash your paper towels and cooled FOG containers when full.
