County Of Sarasota issued the following announcement on Feb 22.
Saturday night, an air relief valve (ARV) at 131 Bayview Dr. was damaged. #SRQCountyUtilities crews responded and, upon investigation, discovered that the ARV was sheared off with its concrete pad and protective metal cover elevated above the ground, with the ARV sitting on its two-inch isolation ball valve. The ball valve was already closed when crews arrived. Approximately 20 to 30 gallons of liquid soaked into the surrounding ground. No surface waters or stormwater structures were impacted and therefore no sampling is necessary. Notifications and cleanup proceeded per Sarasota County’s Spill Response Protocol.
A root cause analysis will be performed to determine if the ARV should have additional protections provided such as the use of concrete bollards surrounding the unit’s location.
