Mangrove School Of Sarasota issued the following announcement on July 27.
Rites of passage
Steeped in mystery, and taking place over two nights and across two coasts, we celebrated our oldest students with a threshold ceremony and an awe inspiring group activity, to mark the commencement of their final stage of childhood.
At age 14, the search for truth begins, life forces are freed for critical thinking, and while gosh can they be critical, it also such a tender time, of confusion, self consciousness, and doubt.
Much like a ritual of passage ceremony, held across cultures, where community members assist individuals moving into a new phase of life, we offered this time to help each student get in touch with who they are, as well as honor them as beloved community members and unique humans on an interconnected planet.
Creating the space to do this allows us to mark these points with intentions, gratitude, and reverence. As with all of our most sacred festivals we have only this photo! But having two nights of very present participants was well worth it, and no picture can possibly capture the memories held so dearly in our hearts.
