Congressman Greg Steube, who represents Florida's 17th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, made several posts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account between October 13 and October 14, 2025. The posts address topics ranging from Columbus Day celebrations to ongoing political disagreements over a government shutdown.

In a post on October 13, Steube recognized the historical significance of Christopher Columbus and the contributions of Italian-American families in his district, stating, "Today we honor Christopher Columbus, whose voyage opened the door to the New World and America. We also celebrate the Italian-American families who call Florida’s 17th District home and their contributions to our nation. Happy Columbus Day!"

Later that same day, Steube responded to another user, Alyssa Farah, with a lighthearted message: "Feel free to borrow one of mine! @Alyssafarah".

On October 14, Steube addressed the ongoing federal government shutdown debate. He wrote, "Democrats are lying to the American people about this shutdown. It’s their demand for taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegals that’s holding up a deal.

The American people didn’t vote for Chuck Schumer to have a veto on President’s Trump’s priorities. It’s time for"

Columbus Day is a federal holiday in the United States commemorating Christopher Columbus's landing in the Americas on October 12, 1492. The day is observed annually on the second Monday of October and has been celebrated as a way to recognize both Columbus's achievements and the contributions of Italian-Americans to U.S. society.

Disputes over government funding and policy priorities have led to several shutdowns in recent decades. In current debates, healthcare provisions for undocumented immigrants remain a contentious issue among lawmakers. The U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former President Donald Trump have been central figures in ongoing negotiations regarding federal budget allocations and legislative priorities.
