U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Mote Science Education Aquarium (SEA) at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota. The event marked the opening of a new facility focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and marine research.

The aquarium features three STEM laboratories dedicated to educating students in Southwest Florida about marine and coastal ecology, robotics, and sensor development. In addition to these labs, five more are available for workforce training and research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students.

Rep. Steube commented on the significance of the new aquarium during the ceremony. “I am honored to participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Mote Science Education Aquarium,” said Rep. Steube. “This new facility will offer people of all ages the chance to learn about aquatic animals and wildlife with an up close and immersive experience. Above all, I believe this new aquarium will teach young people to be responsible stewards of their environment. From their critical research and conservation efforts to the opportunities they provide to local K-12 students, I thank the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium for continuing to invest in the Suncoast community. I am hopeful that this new, state-of-the-art complex will open eyes to the beauty of God’s creation and the importance of conservation.”

The Mote Science Education Aquarium is designed as a resource for both public education programs and scientific research related to marine life and environmental stewardship.
