Sarasota Art Museum is set to celebrate the centennial of Art Deco with an exhibition titled "Art Deco: The Golden Age of Illustration." The event will run from August 31, 2025, to March 29, 2026. It will showcase 100 rare and iconic posters from the William W. Crouse Collection, featuring works by renowned artists such as Lester Beall, Leonetto Cappiello, Jean Carlu, A. M. Cassandre, Paul Colin, Austin Cooper, Jules Courvoisier, Edward McKnight Kauffer, Charles Loupot, Leo Marfurt, Gert Sellheim, Federico Seneca and Roger de Valerio.

Rangsook Yoon, senior curator at Sarasota Art Museum said that before television and digital media existed, printed graphic posters were used to capture viewers' attention through advertisements. "These stunning posters highlight Art Deco as a style and movement that aligned with the modernity in the turbulent early 20th century," Yoon stated.

The exhibition will also feature sculptural pieces and vintage cocktail shakers from the Crouse Collection alongside furniture from The Wolfsonian-Florida International University in Miami. These objects reflect the luxurious materials and finishes of the era.

Bill Crouse expressed his admiration for Art Deco's timeless designs: “Elaine and I were drawn to Art Deco because of its timeless sleek and streamlined designs.”

Virginia Shearer, executive director of Sarasota Art Museum remarked on the significance of Art Deco: “Art Deco is all around us – from the iconic Chrysler Building and Empire State Building in New York to Miami’s historic Art Deco district."

The exhibition is organized by Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College of Art and Design and curated by Rangsook Yoon.

Related public programs include an opening day talk and book signing with artist Joe Fig on November 16.

Sarasota Art Museum offers various educational programs including The Studios at SAM and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Ringling College. Located at 1001 South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota Florida it opened in 2019 within a historic high school building.

General admission is $15 while museum members enjoy free entry along with youth under 17 active military veterans Ringling College alumni faculty staff students plus Cross College Alliance students who present ID cards.

Museum hours are Monday-Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm while SHOP follows similar timings but opens daily at Bistro starting at nine o'clock until three each afternoon.
