Patent office approves 3 patents for Sarasota innovators in week ending December 18

There were three patents granted in Sarasota in the week ending December 18, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is unchanged from the week before. Patents included a methods of treatment of asthma and copd.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending December 18 belonged to e-Vision Smart Optics, Inc. who filed in December 18, 2019.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
